Atlantic Canada Beer Festivals

The Atlantic Canadian beer festival scene continues to grow with the latest edition being the Saint John Beer Festival.   The inaugural event will take place on April 14th from 7-9:30 at the Market Square Atrium.  Tickets, which are $49.50 each,  will be limited due to the size of the location and are available at the Harbour Station box office.

I’ll post more information about the event as it becomes available.  Check out their Facebook page and follow them on Twitter (@SJBeerFest) for more information.

The third annual OktoberFest des Acadiens (Acadien Oktoberfest) will take place August 31st to September 2nd in Northern New Brunswick in the town of Bertrand (located close to Caraquet).  Here’s a link to the official site although it is completely in French.  Even if you can’t read in French it’s worth checking out to see some of the pics from the inaugural event.

The event promises a festive and welcoming atmosphere with many in Bavarian costumes with Bavarian music and dance to take place.  There will be outdoor concerts, inflatable toys for kids (let’s keep the adults that had a few too many out…) with the chance to sample a variety of beers, cheeses and seafood (you couldn’t have an event in this area without seafood!).

I’ve never attended previous events but have been in nearby Caraquet for multiple “quinze aout” celebrations and will vouch for the area’s love of a good party.  I will post more information as it becomes available.

As posted previously, this year’s Beer Fest will take place March 22nd & 23rd from 7-10 pm at the St. John’s Convention Centre.  Tickets are $49.99 + HST which includes:

  • The chance to sample over 85 different beers
  • A booklet with beer descriptions and floor plan
  • $10 taxi voucher
  • Food & entertainment
  • A coupon for a 4 pack of cans of Key Stone Light

Local favorites Quidi Vidi Brewing and Yellow Belly Brewery are among those scheduled to attend.  Other Atlantic Canadian Breweries scheduled to be represented include Pump House Brewery (their new Premium Lager), Sleeman, Moosehead, Molson and Labatt.
