Heading to the Atlantic Beer Festival in Moncton this weekend (tickets still available for the afternoon session) and not sure where to stop for a beer?  Here is my list of best beer bars in the Hub City:
The Laundromat (a.k.a. Marky’s) is located at 382B  St-George.  This is a must stop for any beer geek aficionado enthusiast looking to try something different.  This is the only place on the planet where you can purchase Acadie-Broue beer and also recently had some Shiretown Beer from Northern N.B. on tap.  They are up to 5 taps now and normally have a mix from Atlantic Canadian microbreweries.  They also feature an extensive line up of bottled beers from around the world that are not available anywhere else locally.
The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse is located at 751 Main Street.  What’s a list of beer bars without an Irish Pub?  The Old Triangle features a good selection of draught beer and some standard offerings of bottled beer.  The food is great and there are live acts performing nightly Wednesday to Saturday.
Tide & Boar Gastropub is located at 700  Main Street.  They offer a good selection of draught beer which includes offerings from Garrison, Picaroons, Guiness, Keith’s, Stella and Hoegarden.  They also have an interesting assortment of bottled beer (Mill Street, Unibroue, Chimay Red, Koninshoe La Trappe Trippel among them) and food menu (ever try a Boar poutine?).  In celebration of the AT Beer Festival, they will be tapping a cask conditioned Picaroons Yippee IPA,  this Friday, May 26th.
Last but not least are the two pubs run by the 2005 Canadian Brewery of the Year, Pump House Brewery.  The original location is located at 5 Orange Lane in downtown Moncton.  They offer their regular lineup and seasonal brews that can each be tried as part of a sampler tray.  The food is great, especially the wood fired brick oven pizza.
Across town, at the actual brewery location, is the Barnyard BBQ on 131 Mill Road.  Head over to the Barnyard is you want to drink your beer out of a Mason jar or want to enjoy a Southern themed menu with items such as Alabama Road Kill Chili, Ragin’ Cajun Gumbo, Dirty Bird, Hillbilly Backyard Steak and Texas Rodeo Buffalo Burger.  You can get a glimpse of part of the brewery and tours are available for $2 per person with a minimum of 10 people which includes samples of Pump House beer (tours should be scheduled in advance (506) 389-9042) .

As advertised on their website and Facebook page, Garrison Brewing Co. is looking to hire a Brewer / Assistant Brewer.  Here is the description taking directly from the employment opportunities page:

You’ll be one of three people responsible for the preparation, running, cleaning and minor maintenance of the brewhouse, cellar and support equipment used to produce Garrison’s award-winning natural craft beers and sodas. You’ll work as needed handling raw materials, brewing (in whole or in part), transferring product, monitoring and controlling fermentation and cleaning tanks, equipment and work area. While creative at heart, you’ll need to adhere to recipes and SOPs to achieve the highest quality product in a consistent, efficient and timely manner. You’ll answer directly to the Brewmaster and be responsible for working both independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail and flexibility are critical. You’ll generally work weekdays and evenings, but hey, beer never sleeps so occasional weekend shifts are required.

The highlight of the job posting is that the job includes free beer.  Apparently you also get a competitive salary and health coverage.

Interested applicants are asked to send their resume and cover letter to mobermaier@garrisonbrewing.com or in person to: 1149 Marginal Rd, Halifax, NS.

Here’s a press release I’ve recently received related to a Moosehead Brewery cross country tour:

Moosehead Brewery Raises A Beer To All Things Made Well

First stop for Moosehead’s cross-Canada road trip – Saint John, New Brunswick

May 15, 2012 (Toronto, ON) – Moosehead Breweries Limited, Canada’s oldest and largest independent brewery, is excited to announce its home of Saint John, New Brunswick as the first stop of its Summer 2012 cross-country tour celebrating all things made well. On Tuesday, May 22nd both Andrew Oland, President of Moosehead Breweries Limited and the company’s brew master will be on hand to greet some very special guests at the brewery.

The To All Things Made Well tour is connecting a documentary film crew with Canadians who share the Moosehead passion and ethos for creating quality, well-made products. By sitting down over a beer and talking with craftspeople, Moosehead is showcasing why Canadians create and produce the best of the best, no matter what they choose to do. From food to sports to fashion to outdoor life to music, Moosehead plans to meet and share news about the personalities who help make this country great.

Consumers are invited to follow the tour at www.facebook.com/moosehead where the journey is documented daily. A series of mini-documentaries showcasing key stops along the way is released throughout Summer 2012, while an ongoing contest provides consumers with the chance to win some of the innovative products featured on the tour.

“Canadians love their beer, but they also have a strong appreciation for locally made products,” says Katie Kennedy, Director of Marketing for Moosehead Breweries. “This journey is Moosehead’s way to hit the road and celebrate the Canadians who share our passion, our independent drive and our appreciation for all things made well. What better place to launch the tour than our home.”

The Moosehead-branded Airstream RV travel is travelling coast-to-coast across the country continuing across Canada from Saint John across to British Columbia, to Toronto for the North by Northeast (NXNE) festival on June 11, 2012.

The journey is the kick-off for Moosehead’s new To All Things Made Well marketing and advertising platform designed by recently appointed creative agency-of-record Sid Lee. Elements of the campaign commenced in May in the form of a social media content strategy; digital, radio and television advertising; on-premise promotions; and extensive outreach via PR and blogger campaigns.

“There are so many reasons why this campaign is perfect for us,” says Kennedy. “Of course we want more Canadians to give Moosehead a try, but what we’re really trying to do is share the essence of who we are. By encouraging recognition of local Canadian talent we are connecting their craft with ours. We are delighted to first meet our own beer artisans in our backyard.”

A full list of To All Things Made Well journey stops and craftspeople will be posted throughout the tour at www.facebook.com/moosehead.
