Picaroons Traditional Ales

As noted on the Picaroons Facebook page, Picaroons and new brewery Grimross Brewing have combined to create Monster Mash-Up Collaboration Ale.  The brew was created by Picaroons’ head brewer Andrew “Esty” Estabrooks and Stephen Dixon, owner of Grimross Brewing and as explained in the post brings Stephen’s Belgian influence to Picaroons’ British-style ales.  The brew is available on tap at the Brewtique and is described as:

A bit of a monster, coming in at around 8% alc./vol. – This ale is similar to a barley wine, with the added spiciness of a Belgian yeast.

The post goes on to explain that Stephen will be brewing on the Brewtique system as he develops the recipes that will eventually be produced by his new brewery. More of his beer is expected at the Brewtique in the future.

I haven’t been able to track down much other information on Grimross Brewing other than they can be followed on Twitter ( @GrimrossBrewing ) and that they have just created a Facebook page earlier today.  I will post more information on the new brewery as it is available.

As mentioned on Picaroons Pub website and Canadian Beer News, Picaroons will be releasing a special edition “Plaid to the Bone” Heather Ale.  The brew was created specifically for the upcoming New Brunswick Highland Games Festival and the name was chosen as a result of a contest won by Emily Moller.

The brew was made with real Heather tips and flowers and will be launched in Cask form at the Lunar Rogue Tuesday, July 24th.  The beer will also be available throughout the week at the Brewtique and at the festival itself.

As per the Picaroons Facebook Page, the newest brew they have added to their portfolio is 506 Logger.  The brew is described as:

Brewed in Fredericton, New Brunswick (a far cry away from Cologne, Germany), this crisp, LIGHT and refreshing ale is by most definitions a “Kölsch”.
Golden in color, and modestly hopped with traditional German hops; this well balanced nectar rings in at about 4.5% ABV. A great companion to a sunny summer day in the ‘506’ if you ask us…

For the non-New Brunswickers reading this, 506 is N.B.’s area code.

There is also a note on the page saying that it is available while supplies last at the Brewtique in growlers… for now.  Here’s hoping that’s a sign it’ll be popping up in 500ml bottles in the near future.
